Who here grew up eating chicken pot pie? I know I did. My dad makes THE BEST chicken pot pie in the world, and I'm not biased at all. Since I've moved out and I don't have the ability to eat my dad's pot pie whenever I want, I had to find somewhere else to get my flaky crust and yummy filling. Enter The Waltzing Kangaroo.
I was super intrigued and excited when The Waltzing Kangaroo showed up in Campus West, it was something new that we have never had in Fort Collins before. I was not disappointed when I went it. It is the cutest little bakery, with hip tiling and succulents around the space. Everyone is so friendly, and it always smells heavenly.
Since I am a creature of habit and a picky eater, I always order the same pie whenever I go in: the Chicken in Thai Peanut Sauce. It is HEAVENLY. The crust is some of the best pie crust I have ever had in my life, flaky and buttery, but strong enough to hold all of the filling in without getting soggy. No soggy bottoms here. The peanut sauce is thick and creamy, with a strong peanut flavor and a bit of a kick with red chili flakes. The chicken is cooked perfectly, and the carrots mixed in and give much needed crunch. The pies are little but so filling, I can absolutely have one for lunch or dinner and be completely satisfied. If you want a little extra food, they have phenomenal and creamy mashed potatoes, and some of the best pastries I have ever had in Fort Collins. The caramel bar and fruit tart are my faves. If you are like me and have a vaguely unhealthy addiction to coffee, The Waltzing Kangaroo has delicious coffee, especially their flat white.
If you have not been into The Waltzing Kangaroo, waltz on over as soon as you can. You won't be sorry!
